This April, Centerpoint Arts introduces Jazz Picnic, a series of outdoor concerts presenting a diverse array of improvised music. The project aims to contribute the wave of hopeful energy beginning to permeate New York City as we hopefully begin to turn the corner into post-covid life. World class artists of diverse musical backgrounds from all across the city will gather to perform in a positive, family friendly and covid-safe environment, right in the heart of Brooklyn’s historic Prospect Park. All concerts will take place at 5:30 PM, near the 11th street entrance on Prospect Park West. The lineup is as follows:
April 6 – The Regeneration Quintet – Ras Moshe (saxophones), Matt Lavelle (trumpet), Ayumi Ishito (saxophone), Evan Crane (bass), Dan Kurfirst (drums);
April 14 – Becoming and Return – Daniel Carter (woodwinds/trumpet), Roshni Samlal (tabla), Dan Kurfirst (drums);
April 20 – Ensemble Fanaa – Daro Behroozi (saxophone/bass clarinet), John Murchison (double bass), Dan Kurfirst (drums/percussion);
April 27 – Lateef Beats – Fima Chupakhin (keys), John Merrit (bass), Dan Kurfirst (drums);
